Technology in the field of dentistry has evolved significantly in recent years. To provide you with excellent service and enable our dentists to make an informed diagnosis of your oral health, our dental clinic is equipped with advanced, reliable and efficient tools. Frequently used technology at our clinic includes CEREC for dental restorations, intraoral cameras, digital X-rays and the 3Shape TRIOS digital impression scanner.

CEREC

CEREC is a revolutionary technology that has existed for more than 35 years. It is used to fabricate ceramic restorations from a digital scan of your teeth. The physical properties of ceramics are very similar to those of natural teeth, making them the material of choice for dental restorations. CEREC restorations are performed in a single visit, which gives them an enormous advantage. The restorations last for many years without ever being altered or changing colour.

Digital X-ray

Digital X-ray is a medical imaging technique that uses X-rays to capture images which are used by dentists to diagnose conditions that are invisible to the naked eye. This technology has many advantages, the most important being the fact that it uses a much lower level of radiation than conventional X-rays. Digital X-rays are also highly precise and can capture images rapidly.

Intraoral camera

An intraoral camera is a connected device that lets your dentist capture images of your teeth and mouth on a computer. These images make it easier for you to understand and visualize the state of your teeth and gums. They also help your dentist make an accurate diagnosis. The device is a digital camera the size of a pen that can capture an image and magnify it several times its size. The images taken of your teeth are kept in your file to help your dentist monitor the state of your oral health.

3Shape (optical impression)

We’ve been using an intraoral optical camera system as part of our practice for several years. This device allows us to obtain a dental impression (a mould of your teeth) in order to develop a treatment plan or to produce a restoration.

The 3Shape camera has many advantages. It allows us to:

  • Show you 3D images on a remote screen.
  • Make faster and more accurate digital impressions of your teeth compared to traditional putty impressions.
  • Send digital files to the lab to design restorations on a computer.

Images are filed and stored in your dental record. The archived photos also help your dentist compare and monitor the evolution of your dental health.

Formlabs (3D printing)

Formlabs is cutting-edge 3D printing technology developed for healthcare professionals and medical equipment engineers. We use it to custom-build mouth guards and other dental appliances directly in our office, leading to improved quality control and faster service for our patients.
