Sleep apnea

Do you snore? Do you wake up feeling tired in the morning? You might be suffering from sleep apnea. Talk to your dentist. A dental appliance such as a mandibular advancement device could help you breathe better. Whatever the situation, we’ll examine you and recommend you to a specialist if necessary.

Dental hygiene

Having optimal dental hygiene is essential to maintaining good dental health. As a reminder, it’s important to:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice daily
  • Floss at least once daily
  • Use interdental brushes if necessary

In addition, we recommend that you visit your dentist at least twice a year, or more often if your condition requires it. During check-up visits, your dentist will conduct a detailed dental examination and a dental hygienist will scale and polish your teeth. By eliminating tartar and dental plaque, the risk of developing gum conditions will be diminished.

Bruxism (teeth grinding)

Bruxism is when someone grinds their teeth, either while awake or during sleep. It can cause morning headaches, temporomandibular joint pain and sometimes even tooth pain. Luckily, there are various treatments available to reduce bruxism, the most common being mouth guards.

Cavities

Cavities are a very common oral health condition, especially among children but also in adults. Cavities are caused by sugars in the food we consume. It’s important to note that cavities don’t cause pain. Pain only arises when a cavity reaches a nerve, a condition that should be avoided at all costs. That’s why we recommend getting regular checkups at the dentist. During checkups, cavities can be detected and treated at an early stage. For children, the dentist will offer to apply a dental sealant to act as a shield against cavities.

Dental prostheses (complete, immediate or partial, implant-supported removable)

Dental prostheses are available in many different configurations: fixed, removable, implant-supported, implant-supported removable, bar-retained, immediate, complete, partial, etc. All these devices are effective for restoring proper chewing function. These days, implants also offer an excellent alternative for replacing missing teeth. We’ll examine your specific needs and discuss the most appropriate prosthesis solutions with you.

Gingivitis

Do your gums bleed when you brush your teeth? Are they red and swollen? Talk to your dentist as soon as possible. Even though gingivitis is a benign inflammation of the gums caused by the accumulation of plaque and tartar, it can lead to gum disease, a much more serious condition that requires more treatments. We check for gingivitis during each visit. If necessary, we’ll give you tips on how to address it.

Halitosis (bad breath)

Having bad breath is unpleasant for you and the people around you. Talk to your dentist. They’ll be able to help you with this condition. Bad breath may be caused by an oral health problem such as cavities or gum conditions. Your dentist will examine your mouth and recommend an appropriate solution.

Periodontics

Periodontics is a branch of dentistry that deals with the periodontium, or the foundational structures (gums and bones) that support the teeth. Periodontics involves the treatment of gum conditions, such as when gingivitis leads to gum disease. By going to the dentist for regular checkups, you’ll maximize your chances of maintaining optimal oral health.

Mouth guards

If you play a high-impact sport (combat sports, hockey, football, basketball, soccer, etc.), wearing a properly fitted mouth guard can help protect your teeth and head from injury. A facial trauma or fall can lead to broken teeth, jaw injuries or a concussion. Mouth guards are designed to prevent these situations. Your dentist will have a mouth guard custom-made for you that’s comfortable and fitted to your mouth. Talk to your dentist about this solution!

Dental sealants

Kids are particularly at risk for cavities. To reduce this risk, dentists recommend applying dental sealants on the grooves of the back teeth of children aged 6 to 14. The sealants are thin layers of resin that are long lasting and act as a barrier to protect against cavities. Their application does not require a local anesthetic. This treatment may also be appropriate for adult teeth.

CEREC

CEREC is an advanced computer-assisted technique that uses reinforced ceramic to create fillings and crowns in a single visit. These ceramic restorations strengthen the walls of decayed, fractured or cracked teeth.

Main benefits:

  1. Restorations are made and fitted in a single visit
  2. Natural-looking, attractive restorations that are resistant and durable (20+ years)
  3. The natural tooth regains its strength and solidity

Steps in creating and fitting CEREC restorations

1. Preparing the tooth

Under local anesthetic, the dentist will remove the cavity or the fillings that need to be replaced. After analyzing the tooth’s remaining structures, the dentist will use an intraoral camera to take an optical impression of the tooth.

2. Preparing the restoration

A 3D image will be sent to the CEREC device. Next, the dentist will design the required restoration and send the model to the milling machine. The machine will then carve the restoration from a ceramic block.

3. Fitting the restoration

The dentist will attach, adjust and polish the restoration.

Because the restoration is custom-built based on a model of your teeth, it will fit perfectly in your mouth. The result is comfortable and looks just like your natural tooth. After only a single visit, you’ll go home with the restoration complete!

Oral and dental exams

Your dentist will carefully check your oral and dental health in order to catch issues early. During the exam, we’ll look at your teeth, gums and jaw. X-rays will be taken to give us a better view of cavities or other conditions that are invisible to the naked eye. Your dentist will also screen for oral cancer, which can occur in any part of the mouth or surrounding tissues. Finally, we’ll examine your face, neck, throat, lips, tongue, gums and mucous membrane to look for signs of oral cancer.

Fluoride treatments

A fluoride treatment is like vitamins for your teeth!

Fluoride is a mineral that has multiple benefits for oral and dental health, including helping prevent cavities. It strengthens tooth enamel and inhibits bacteria that cause cavities. This treatment is applied after a dental cleaning. It can be in the form of a varnish, foam or mouth rinse. Since the water in our region isn’t fluoridated, this treatment is strongly recommended.

Children’s dentistry

Children should start seeing a dentist when they’re around 18 months old. The dentist will make sure their teeth are erupting properly, with no issues or signs of disease. At the same time, your child will become familiar with the dentist’s office and feel more comfortable during subsequent visits. Early consultations can help correct bad habits, like thumb sucking. Like adults, children should see a dentist on a regular basis (every six months).
